Verb Tener

Tener in present tense
Tener is equivalent to verb to have in English
Yo tengo
Tu tienes
el/ elle Ud tienes
nosotros tenemos
ellos, ellas, uds tienan

Tener in expressions and idioms:
Thus its use is quite extensive. It is one of the verbs you will hear all the time. I is used in these common expressions that are covered by verb to be in English. Thus tengo or other forms of verb tener are used:

tengo --an(y)os = I am --- years old
tengo calor = I am hot
tengo frio = I am cold
tengo quidado = I am careful
tengo la culpa = I am in fault
tengo dolor de-- = I have pain in---
tengo exito --- I am successful
tengo ganas de --- I want to
tengo verguenza --- I am ashamed
tengo hampre--- I am hungry
tengo la palabra--- I have the floor
tengo miedo do --- I am afraid of
tengo prisa --- I am in hurry
tengo rabia --- I am very angry
tengo razon --- I am right
tengo sed --- I am thirsty
tengo suen(y)o --- I am sleepy

Tener que:
Tener can used with que also to express that you have to do something:
Tener + que + infinitive
I ( he,---) have to infinitive.
Tengo que ir = I have to go
Thus using tener que and adding whatever verb you feel you want to use can help you to express many of your desires or obligations.
